Why Extraction Beats Grinding Every Time

Stump grinders shave wood down 6 inches below grade and leave the rest. Within 2–5 years, that buried wood decays, the soil settles, and you are left with a soft depression that collapses under driveways, slabs, or landscaping.

We use a heavy grapple-equipped machine to pull the entire stump and root structure out of the ground. The cavity is backfilled with native soil, compacted, and graded flush. No future rot. No future settling. Just solid ground.

Stump Types We Handle in Alabama

• Live Oak — Wide, shallow lateral roots that spread like a plate. Requires careful chain rigging and steady pull force to avoid tearing surrounding soil.
• Water Oak — Medium depth, brittle wood. Easier extraction but root fragments can remain if not pulled cleanly.
• Southern Pine — Deep taproot, resinous wood. The taproot often extends below the apparent stump line and must be fully severed.
• Magnolia & Sweetgum — Dense, heavy root crowns with interlocking fiber. Requires grapple strength and proper leverage angle.
